I’ve been involved in the organisation of an event, by and for women to be held on Monday 16th March at University of East London, CASS School of Education. For more information, Click Here
The event was inspired by my friend Silhouette Bushay, who lectures in Education Studies and is also the co-director of the documentary: Through The Lens of Hip-Hop -UK Women, (@ttlhhukwomen) which was nominated for a screen nation award in 2015. Silhouette and I used to sing together in a duo backinthaday!
Silhouette has worked as a volunteer and paid staff for not-for-profit organisations, and Further Education. She has worked with a wide range of clients from refugees to young people. Her work experience includes mentoring young people with and without complex needs within an alternative school provision, a secondary school and a Youth Centre. In addition, she has been developing personal development workshops, programmes and learning resources for women and girls. Silhouette has a passion for employing hip-hop pedagogy and creative arts for educational and therapeutic purposes – this coincides with her family background of musicians, singers and music producers. This has extended to writing, co-producing/co-directing the award nominated film documentary ‘Through The Lens of Hip-Hop: UK Women’.
Its been an absolute honour and privilege to work with her in this capacity…and it is a real testament to our collective effort and the support of UEL, that this event is shaping up to be a blinder.
