Bastedo – The end of the beginning

Our beloved Vinz, has decided that its time to part company with Bastedo.

Bastedo is the manifestation of a long nursed dream of mine, (lead singer Alex Watson.) I’ve been involved in the music industry in many ways shapes and forms for more years than I care to mention. 🙂 Meeting Vinz, then subsequently forming Bastedo has been an amazing experience for me personally, and I am very sad to see him go.

This is by no means the end of the road for Bastedo however, and like the blog title says, it just marks the end of the beginning. You can still catch Vinz with us over the next few months seeing out committments that have been made before his decision to part ways and also whilst we make the transition to finding and working with new musicians.

I know Vinz really doesn’t feel comfortable with all this social media etc, and really just loves listening to great music, and playing (and collecting) his collection of guitars, and writing beautiful guitar melodies. Occasionally singing.:) He’s been such a good sport over the last few years, and a real source of strength and support to the me and the other members of the band.

Like I said, he’ll be with us for the time being, seeing us through this time of transition, and of course we will always be friends.

As for the future. Admittedly, progress has been very slow working on our new recordings. OK, we haven’t started yet! 🙂 However, this is still in the pipeline. Suburban Blues: The Manifesto is still very much an offering you should be anticipating. I’m very excited about recording and getting some of those songs out there available for people to buy and listen to…but nothing good comes easy. Vinz will still be involved.

We have to find a new venue to rehearse and generally just keep the show on the road, and keep building on what we have established to date. Now is the time to take it to the next level.

Eventually we’ll have to update our website. Make no mistake…there is alot to do…but there always is. If you haven’t been to see one of our live shows, perhaps now is a good time.

We have been participating in Live & Unsigned Area Final on 19th May 2012. We’ve been rehearsing our ‘medley’ which invloves us doing one of our own songs and one cover within a 3 and a half minute timeframe.  We’ve settled on a mashup of our song ‘Valuable’ and Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy.’ Let’s see how it goes. This London final will be held at Beck Theatre, Grange Road, Hayes, Middlesex. Tickets are available for £9, and if your interested, just email us onbastedo@live.co.uk

I am personally also very excited about our gigs at The Alexandra Bastedo Champion’s Animal Sanctuary next month. I’ve alluded to this in previous blogs, as she’s mine and my band’s namesake. I am so looking forward to meeting her (so is my mum 🙂 Bastedo was my childhood nickname.

We always sing this at the start of our sets…its become something of a tradition. This one goes out to Vinz – Loving You.

Here’s a version of the great woman herself Minnie Ripperton doing a live version in 1975. What a legend
